Barry Price, Associate Pastor of Misfits for Jesus
Barry Price was raised in a traditional American family. As a child he regularly attended Sunday School with his family but today he says he really didn’t “get it” back then. Later in school he became very active in sports and soon began chasing the American Dream when he started working at an early age. As often happens, these activities pulled him away from church attendance.
Then what began as casual partying in Barry’s teenage years turned into a Godless existence that spiraled out of control. In the midst of it all he found himself searching for meaning and purpose, but it was illusive. This sinful lifestyle multiplied even further when Barry and his friend Randy Abbott went into business together in 1987.
But then in 1993 Barry’s friend Randy gave his life to Jesus! The testimony of Randy’s changed life got Barry’s attention. As Randy shared the gospel with Barry, he said, “There’s something to this thing…something nobody ever told us before!” Apprehensive at first, the same Baptist preacher that led Randy to Christ challenged Barry to examine the scriptures. He asked Barry to let him know what he found—well, Barry found Jesus! And his life has never been the same.
Barry has been involved with Misfits for Jesus from the very beginning. It started downtown when he was repairing and renovating bicycles for the homeless. Today Barry Price is an Associate Pastor of Misfits for Jesus.
Barry lives in St. Peters with his wife Debbra. They have been together 32 years and he has been a self employed painting contractor for 30 years. They have one grown son, Chris and Murphy the cat (aka The Murphinator).
Barry is a firm believer in sharing your faith since it was Randy’s openness about what God was doing in his life that led Barry to want to know more. His favorite scripture is found in Titus 3:3-7: “Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But when God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”
